Gary Numan’s Exhibition Tour of 1987 was an 18-date UK tour coinciding with the release of the Beggars Banquet compilation Exhibition, which reached No. 43 in the UK Albums Chart. The compilation brought together material from his Tubeway Army years through to 1983, while the tour also provided an opportunity to showcase material from his 1986 album Strange Charm, which had not been supported by a dedicated tour.
The tour ran from 7 September at Cardiff’s St David’s Hall to 26 September at London’s Hammersmith Odeon, where two consecutive performances concluded the run. Other venues included Portsmouth Guildhall, Bristol Colston Hall, Glasgow Barrowland, Manchester Apollo, Newcastle City Hall and Sheffield City Hall. The 18-date itinerary covered approximately 1,784 miles across Wales, England and Scotland, with West Won providing support.
The two Hammersmith Odeon performances were recorded for the live album Ghost, originally released in 1988 as a limited double LP before receiving wider distribution. The recordings document a transitional period in Numan’s career, combining his earlier Beggars Banquet catalogue with material from his independent Numa Records years.
