Gary Numan’s Berserker Tour of 1984 was a 19-date UK run supporting his sixth solo album, Berserker, released on 9 November on his own Numa label. The album introduced a harder, hi-NRG-influenced synth sound built around the PPG Wave synthesiser, accompanied by a dystopian, ice-cold aesthetic.
The tour ran from 22 November at Cardiff’s St David’s Hall to 12 December, ending with two nights at London’s Hammersmith Odeon. It visited venues including Birmingham Odeon, Manchester Apollo, Glasgow Apollo, Sheffield City Hall and Brighton Dome, covering approximately 1,860 miles across Wales, England and Scotland.
The stage was designed as a stylised high-tech Roman temple, complementing Numan’s striking white-leather “Iceman” appearance, white makeup and blue hair. Hohokam and Larry Loeber provided support. The Hammersmith performances were recorded for the live album White Noise (1985) and the concert video The Berserker Tour.
